Peshawar: Security forces attacked militants hideouts with gunship helicopters, killing eight and injuring several in northwest tribal region of Pakistan on Saturday, sources said.
They said that the security forces launched the operation in Orazk Zai tribal region near the Afghan border, but there was no independent confirmation of the attack.
Pakistan launched a massive operation against Tehreek-i-Taliban-led insurgents in its northwestern parts near Afghan border in 2007 while a major surge in military attacks has been witnessed in recent days apparently due to international pressure following the killing of al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, some 135 kilometres from country’s capital.
