Paris: French police have detained six alleged militants on Tuesday, including an Indian seized at the airport when he arrived from Algeria.
Police during a search operation arrested the suspects as part of an probe into an Islamist network alleged to have recruited militants in France and sent them to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
French Interior Minister Claude Gueant told reporters about the arrests ending a meeting on fighting cocaine trafficking. Another Interior Ministry official said the arrests did not immediately appear to have links to any possible terrorism plots in France.
France and other Western countries remain tightened security for possible terror attacks after Al Qaeda Chief Osama Bin Laden was killed on May 2 by US military raid in Pakistan.
Counterterrorism officials in France have long been aware that homegrown militants could carry out terror attacks in France after getting training in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
