Karachi: Pakistan will decide either the US should launch a unilateral action against Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Omer and al-Qaeda’s leader Aiman Al-Zawahiri or a joint operation if the duo’s presence in Pakistan is revealed, said US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter in an interview, to be aired today, with a private television.
Our friends in Pakistan are committed to eliminate terrorists and they will have to decide either the US will take unilateral or a joint action , Munter said on being asked whether the US would launch solo operation as it did in Abbottabad that led to killing of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, if it received reports of Mullah Omer and Zawahiri’s presence in Pakistan.
The US Seals last week killed Osama in a predawn covert operation in Abbottabad located at a walking distance form Pakistan Army’s premier training academy, triggering an unending debate in and outside the country over Pakistan’s capability to fight against terrorism.
The civil and military establishments have been passing the buck to each other after the US operation and their failure to take the nation into confidence on how the US helicopters violated the country’s airspace ,taking down Osama.
