Lahore: Former foreign minister and senior leader of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Shah Mehmood Quershi has urged President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to resign over US operation in Abbottabad that led to killing of al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden.
Speaking to media at Lahore Press Club on Saturday he demanded that an urgent meeting of party’s Central Executive Committee be conveyed to take the party leaders into confidence about Abbottabad operation. He said that he would ask the president and the prime minister to resign over the issue.
Qureshi lamented that the president had time to write an article in a foreign newspaper regarding Osama operation while he had no time to address the nation over the issue.
He termed the US operation as offensive against Pakistan. The former minister said that havoc was wrecked on the country while the government was busy in distributing ministries.
He said that a thorough inquiry should be conducted into the issue and the army chief and the director general ISI should resign if their incompetence proves.
He said that Foreign Secretary should not give briefing in the democratic government.
