Washington: A highly trained sniffing dog was reportedly part of the operation team of US special commandos who killed Al Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.
The dog was strapped to an ambushed team member who was lowered into the mansion where Bin Laden was hiding his Abbottabad’s compound, an American newspaper reported.
It is not the first time dogs have been used for such operations.
These specially trained dogs wear ballistic body armour that can withstand knife attack as well as protective gear which shields them from shrapnel and gunfire, the report said.
According to the report, the dog that assisted in the raid was believed to be hailed from Germany or Belgium.
The dogs can attack anyone carrying a weapon and play a vital role in raids as they crawl into tunnels or rooms to hunt for enemies.
