Brussels: The European Union Thursday insisted to continue supporting Pakistan as an important partner, amid rising criticism over the issue of Al-Qaeda chief hiding out for years near to Islamabad.
Spokesman for top EU foreign policy, Michael Mann, said in a statement that after Osama Bin Laden death, Pakistan needed more assistance than ever before.
”There can be no doubt that we will have to rely on Pakistan’s full cooperation as a partner, the death of Bin Laden underlines the need for broad and reinforced engagement with Pakistan generally, but also on security-related issues”, Mann said.
Pakistan has a crucial role to play in making the region secure and stable, Mann also noted. “Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani needs the international community’s support as he attempts to regain full control over all organs of state”, EU Spokesman added.
Earlier on Wednesday NATO’s Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen echoed similar statements for Pakistan.
