Chicago: An American court charged four Pakistanis for plotting November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India that killed 166 people, including six Americans.
Federal prosecutors in Chicago on Monday charged four Pakistanis Sajid Mir, Abu Qahafa, Mazhar Iqubal and a fourth defendant known only by the alias “Major Iqbal” for aiding and abetting the murder of US citizens and conspiracy to bomb public places in India. None is in US custody.
Three other men were charged in a previous indictment, including Chicago businessman Tahawwur Rana, who’s scheduled to stand trial next month. Terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri and retired Pakistani military man Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed also were charged but their whereabouts are unknown.
American David Coleman Headley pleaded guilty in March 2010 to charges that included scouting locations for the attacks. Headley and Rana have also been charged in a plot to attack a Danish newspaper that was never carried out.
