Java: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Sulawesi island in central Indonesia on Monday, officials in the region said.
According to the reports, the quake occurred 55 km (33 miles) southeast of the town of Kendari and likely struck the tip of the island.
Officials said the tremor was strongly felt in Kendari and an aftershock of 5.2 was recorded soon after to the east of the town.
The United States Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 7:07 p.m. EDT, 67 miles east of Baubau at a relatively shallow depth of 6.2 miles. It later adjusted the depth to 5.8 miles.
