Cairo: Hosni Mubarak, former Egyptian president, has been hospitalized in Sharm el-Sheikh, after complaining of heart attack on Tuesday when he was supposed to be interrogated on charges of corruption in his 30 years of rule.
Egypt’s prosecutor general Monday issued a summons to 82-year-old Mobarak to interrogate corruption allegations in his three decades rule and violence against protesters during the 18-day uprising that forced him out of office.
At the other hand, pro-democracy supporters demonstrated in the Red Sea port city of Sharm el-Sheikh where the former dictator has been residing since his ouster from rule in February 11. However, Hosni Mubarak’s sons, Jamal and Alaa have arrived at Cairo for interrogation by the judiciary.
Mubarak’s hospitalization has been ridiculed by pro-democracy supporters who feel it’s only a gimmick by the ruling military council to save the corrupt Mobarak.
Earlier this week, Mubarak denied all allegations of grafting and asserted that he had no monetary deposits in foreign banks. He even declared to stand trial and dismiss all cases of corruption leveled against him by a section of people and media.
