Lahore: The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the Punjab government to identify those who were responsible for deaths, caused by a 36-day strike of Young Doctors Association (YDA) in the government-run hospitals in the province, within a month.
Chief Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry was hearing the case. Punjab chief secretary and representatives of the YDA appeared before the court.
The CJ remarked that the Punjab government has been completely failed to handle the issue of doctor’s strike.
He asked the chief secretary why the health secretary was not removed as he was incompetent.
Chief Secretary told the court that not only the health secretary a special committee was also monitoring the situation regarding the strike.
He argued that if the demands of the protesting doctors were not accepted other associations also took to the streets.
The CJ remarked that all sections of the society have adopted a new way to get their demands accepted.
He observed that Punjab government was sleeping during the strike while the doctors those who were tending to join the duties were stopped to do so.
Justice Chaudhry observed that the elements those who were responsible for the deaths of people in the wake of the prolonged strike should be punished after a thorough inquiry.
