Beijing: China’s government has said that trade grew strongly in the first two months of the year despite a February slowdown due to the Lunar New Year holiday.
Customs data released Thursday showed exports rose 21.3 percent in the January-February period over a year ago while imports gained 36 percent.
The trade surplus narrowed slightly to $7.3 billion. China’s exports have risen in recent months in a sign of rebounding global demand. A rise in the price of oil and other imported commodities has boosted its import bill, narrowing the country’s global trade surplus.
