Islamabad:The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought written assurance of the Balochistan government to held local body elections in the province.
Three-judge bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a petition filed by the Balochistan High Court Bar Association president, making the federal government and nine others as respondents over deteriorating law and order situation in the province.
Attorney General Balochistan Sallahuddin Mengal informed the court about government steps being taken regarding recovery of missing persons of the province.
He told the court that two missing additional and session judges have been recovered last night while efforts were underway to recover other missing persons.
Chief Justice said that all the intelligence agencies were answerable to the government and courts as well.
He directed that steps be taken in collaboration with the IB, MI, and ISI to recover missing persons of the province.
The CJ remarked that despite the law and order situation in the province, authorities had failed to apprehend a significant number of suspects involved in target killings and kidnapping for ransom.
Moreover, Advocate AG Balochistan told the court that 244 people had been killed in the province in 2010 and that the provincial government had compensated the affected families.
The CJ directed Chief Secretary Baluchistan to submit within four weeks a report regarding the local government elections and the missing lawyers.
