Islamabad: Majority of Pakistanis believed that Egyptians movement against its dictatorial President Hosni Mubarak was justified, according to a Gallup Pakistan survey.
According to the survey, carried out by Gallup Pakistan before Mubarak stepped down, 66 percent of the Pakistanis believed that Egyptian public was justified to protest against the Hosni Mubarak-led government. However a smaller number which is 48 percent was of the opinion that the situation in Egypt would improve after his resignation.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2631 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country during February 2011.
The survey asked the following question from the sample of men and women across the country: “In your opinion the protests carried out by the Egyptian public against the government are justified or not?
The Pakistanis in 66 percent replied in affirmative whereas 11 percent believed the protests to be unjustified. A considerable 23% gave no response.
In a follow up question, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked the following question: “In your opinion if President Hosni Mubarak resigns, will the condition of Egypt improve or further deteriorate or remain the same?”
According to study, 48 percent of the population believed that the situation would improve with his resignation in Egypt as opposed to 23 percent who were of the opinion that situation would further deteriorate while two percent gave no response.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
