Colombo: Canadian bowlers put up a brilliant performance to bundle out Pakistan for 184 runs in 43 overs in their World Cup clash at the Premadasa stadium on Thursday.
Canadian bowler Baidan took three wickets in 8 overs while giving 35 runs.
Rizwan Cheema first got the wicket captain Afridi caught by Nitish Kumar at backward point and in the next over Jimmy Hansra trapped Abdul Razzaq plumb in front of the wicket to reduce Pakistan to 181 runs off 8 wickets in 41.1 overs.
Balaji Rao dismissed Umar Akmal and Misbah-ul-Haq in his alternate overs to reduce Pakistan to 165 runs off 6 wickets in 38.2 overs.
Rao got the wicket of Misbah at the score of 37 caught behind down the leg side by Bagai after trapping Umar plumb in front of the score of 48 runs.
Opener Mohammad Hafeez lost his wicket to pacer Henry Osinde. Later, talented youngster Ahmed Shahzad slipped when he scooped an easy catch to mid-wicket. Veteran Younis Khan struggled to counter Canada bowlers and was scalped by Ahmed Shehzad for 6 runs.
Umar added 73 runs with Misbah-ul-Haq for the fifth wicket to steady Pakistan after a shaky start as green shirts lost three early wickets inside fifteen overs. Pakistan big-hitters Shahid Afridi could scored 20 runs and Abdul Razzaq managed to get just eight runs before losing their wickets.
Pakistan is almost certain of qualifying for the quarterfinals if they beat Canada in Thursday’s match.
Canada lost their first game to Sri Lanka by a massive 210 runs in Hambantota and then were beaten by Zimbabwe by 175 runs in Nagpur.
