Muscat: At least two people have been killed during the clashes between anti-government protests and police. The protesters were demanding reforms in the Gulf of Oman, following the protests which have gripped whole Middle East.
Witnesses say police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters on Sunday in Sohar, about 120 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of the capital Muscat. While, angry crowd set various government buildings and offices on fire.
A police official said on the condition of anonymity that at least two protesters have been killed during the clashes, The News Tribe correspondent reported.
The clashes also mark an escalation in the Oman protests, and indicate that the unrest roiling the Arab world has spilled over to Oman.
