Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has remarked that the situation in Balochistan province is turning critical and would bring serious consequences if it is not addressed.
A Supreme Court bench headed by the CJ was hearing a petition regarding law and order situation in Balochistan.
The CJ remarked that innocent people were paying ransom to secure their release besides governor, DCO and high level officials were being attacked in the province, adding that at least 110 innocent people have gone missing in Balochistan.
Justice Sair Ali termed the law and order in Balochistan as worst than Jungle.
The CJ observed that the province was an important unit of federation and the protection of citizens’ lives was the constitutional responsibility of the incumbent government.
A lawyer form the Balochistan High Court Bar informed the court that the political workers were being killed one by one in the province.
Justice Chaudhry ruled that why the Chief Secretary and IG Balochistan police were holding their posts as they were not able to cope with the situation.
The CJ direct the Attorney General Anwar Ul Haq to apprise the prime minister about the situation in the province and informed the court about PM’s viewpoint to the situation.
Heads of Frontier Constabulary (FC), Balochistan Levies and Military Intelligence have been issued notices seeking their replies over the law and order in the province.
