Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its annoyance over slow progress in investigation into the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) corruption case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Cahudhry was hearing the case.
The CJ remarked that neither the real culprits were arrested nor the embezzled money was recovered.
Secretary industry and production appeared before the court and informed that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had issued notices to 16 accused in PSM scam, adding that 178 person were also issued notices who allegedly benefitted from the scam.
The secretary told the court that at least RS 34 billion losses were inflicted to the PSM Since 2008 while Rs160 million had been recovered in account of production.
Justice Chaudhry remarked that whole the case was spoiled by the DG FIA Waseem Ahemd.
The CJ said that the PSM itself should take measures to make the institution profit- earning besides taking notice to eliminate corruption.
The court direct the secretary industry and production to submit report into the case till march 14.
