Dhaka: Bangladesh is set to have its first woman judge at the Supreme Court.
Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana is among four senior High Court judges elevated by President Zillur Rahman to the appellate division of the apex court.
Sultana was also the first woman to be made a high court judge in 2000, news published on Wednesday.
Women have played a prominent role in Bangladesh’s social and cultural life.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also a woman, while the leader of the opposition too is a woman, Khaleda Zia.
