Moscow: Russia has expressed deep concern over the situation in the Middle East and urged the parties to resolve all problems peacefully and without accepting any outside pressure.
“We reiterate that there should be no interference from outside in the region’s political process,” a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said. “External pressure and imposition of ‘reform’ models could only worsen the atmosphere and hamper the civil accord there, ” said Alexander Lukashevich in a statement on Friday.
Russia believed all political problems could be resolved through peaceful national dialogue, Lukashevich said. Russia has paid attentions to the events in Bahrain, Libya, Yemen and in Arab world as a whole, he added.
“This is a region close to us and connected with Russia with long-time warm sincere friendly relations. We would like to see Middle East and North African states prosperous with harmoniously developing political, social and economic systems,” Lukashevich said.
This is why Moscow has been concerned with the “wave of dramatic events in the recent weeks there,” he added.
The spokesman also warned “the further staggering of the situation could open way for destructive elements with the aims opposite to the people’s aspirations.”
Protesters have clashed with police in Bahrain, Yemen and Libya since Egypt’s president Hosni Mubarak resigned.
