England beat Canada by 16 runs in a warm up match ahead of the 2011 Cricket World Cup on Wednesday at Shaheb Usman Ali Stadium at Fatullah thanks to fine bowling by Stuart Broad.
But it was not an easy sailing. First the Canadians got the English all out at an unimpressive score of 243. England were struggling at 86 for four before Trott and Prior strengthened their position. Trot scored 57 and Prior 78.
Then a partnership between Rizwan Cheema and Khurram Chohan took Canada to a strong position in the chase. Cheema was always threatening with his furious hitting. He hit 10 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 130.
Stuart Broad, who had earlier removed three Canadian batsman, finally ended his71-ball innings in the 29th over. Canada failed to maintain the run rate then. Broad had Chohan leg before when he was 44 and Canada 227. He was the last man out.
The match showed how unpredictable English side is and what can be expected of non-Test playing nations in the group matches.
