Cairo: A large number of protesters left Tahrir Square, epicenter of demonstrators who compelled Hosni Mubarak to leave, after Egypt’s new military rulers dissolved parliament and suspended the constitution.
The Military Command Council’s decision was welcomed by many of the protesters.
The country has meanwhile declared on Monday a bank holiday in an attempt to return the country to normalcy, after workers disrupted operations at the country’s main state banks.
Media reports say that the military is likely to ban meetings by labour unions or professional organisations, effectively banning strikes, and to tell all Egyptians to get back to work
Media reports say some employees have been encouraged by the success of protesters and are now seeking the removal of the bosses.
Hosni Mubarak quit on Friday after 18 days of mass rallies.
