Ramallah: Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and his cabinet tendered thier resignations to the President Mahmud Abbas as part of a cabinet reshuffle, news agencies reported on Monday. Fayyad, 58, has been occupying the post since 2007.
Earlier on Saturday, the Palestinian Authority said it seeks to hold presidential and legislative elections by September.
However, Hamas, who are in control of the Gaza Strip, immediately rejected the plan, saying Mr Abbas had no legitimacy.
“Hamas will not take part in this election. We will not give it legitimacy. And we will not recognise the results,” spokesman Fawzi Barhoum told a news agency.
