Ijaz and Inzamam were big players. Both had illustrious one-day careers. Their world cup records are, however, far from being impressive.
Both averaged less than 24 runs in world cups. Inzamam scored only four half-centuries in his 35 world cup games. Ijaz, too, has only four fifties from his 29 games.
Allan Border, who led his team to a world cup win in 1987 in the subcontinent, managed only one half century from his 25 cup games. His average was 18, which you cannot even call mediocre.
Nathan Astle scored 101 the first time he batted in a world cup game. In the next 21 innings that he played in world cups till 2003, he managed only 302 runs, at an average of 14.38 with one more century and only one fifty.
Carl Hooper, a former West Indian captain, averaged 35 in his one-day career. He averaged only 18 in his 20 world cup games. He crossed the 50-run mark only once.
Mike Hussey, who has an average of close to 52 in one-day cricket, failed miserably in 2007 when he managed just 87 runs from six innings.
