Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered to try superior court judges who took oath under PCO on contempt of court charges and serve notices on former military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf and the then corps commanders.
The court ruled that the PCO judges would be tried under contempt charges. A four-judge SC bench comprising Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui, Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez heard contempt cases against Justice (retd) Abdul Hameed Dogar, former SC chief justice; Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry, former chief justice of the Lahore High Court; and eight sitting judges — Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain of the Supreme Court and Justices Khurshid Anwar Bhinder, Hamid Ali Shah, Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Hasnat Ahmed Khan, Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi, Yasmin Abbasey and Jehan Zaib Rahim of different high courts.
Defence counsel Abdul Basit argued that former president Pervez Musaharraf and corps commanders should also be tried for contempt of court.The court in its verdict ordered that contempt notices be issued to the former president Pervez Musharraf, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz and then corps commanders.
The accused judges would be indicted on February 22.
