Peshawar:A suicide bomber blew himself up near a police vehicle on Kohat road, killing five, a DSP among them, and injuring 15 people in the provincial capital on Monday. Official sources said that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rashid Khan, three police constables and a pedestrian were among the dead, adding that the DSP was targeted in the blast when he was on his way in his vehicle.
The four of the dead were identified as DSP Rashid Khan, driver Ameen, gunman Sher Rehman and a pedestrian Khan Muhammad while the identity of the fifth could not be ascertained.
Security forces and rescue workers rushed to the spot and cordoned-off the area.
The dead and injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where two of the injured were stated to be in critical condition.
SSP Operations Ejaz Khan told media that police have launched an inquiry into the blast while the head of the suicide bomber was found from the site of the blast.
Bomb Disposal Squad officer Shafqat said that seven kilograms of explosive material was used in the blast.
Khyber Pukhtunkha (KP) Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour visited the blast site.Speaking to the media, he said that the people of KP would not surrender to the terrorists.
Bilour siad that the terrorists were trying to pressurise the people by targeting police officials.
