Bradford: The Jammu Kashmir self determination Movement Europe organised a conference in the House of Commons on the Indian republic day which the Kashmiri people observe as a “Black day”
Attended by Politicians, Author, poet, community activists and representatives of the Kashmiri community, it was a very successful conference.
The issue of Kashmir has been around for a long time and has caused misery and heartache for people of the sub continent for over six decades
The people have Kashmir were promised a plebiscite by the United Nations India and Pakistan over 63 years ago and yet after 3 wars and loss of lots of life there is still no sign of the right of self determination for the peoples of Kashmir.
This conference sponsored by Julie Hilling MP was a timely reminder to the world that this issue requires the urgent attention of the world community.
Raja Najabat Hussain, chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement Europe said. “People of Kashmir have given many sacrifices and continue to do so it is high time that the Indian Government gave the people of Kashmir their right of self determination,”
Debbie Abrahams, newly elected MP for Oldham East & Saddleworth said “During my election campaign, i was made aware of the Kashmir issue and I said I will support the people of Kahsmir”
“Here I am pledging my support for the people of Kashmir, the Human Rights violations taking place cannot be allowed to continue and must stop immediately”
“I will do what I can to ensure this issue is moved higher up on the international agenda”
Craig Whittaker MP said. “I know Kashmiri community are a peace loving, hard working, loyal and very hospitable community, I share their pain and am working with the Government to put pressure on India and Pakistan to resolve this long standing dispute”
Jason McCarthy MP said. “ I recently visited Azad Kashmir and want to visit Indian Occupied Kashmir too” “I now have a better understanding of the Kashmir issue and am proud to say that I am a friend of Kashmiris and will work tirelessly to find a solution to this issue”
Steven Baker MP said “The British Kashmiris must write continuously to their MP and urge them to take action on this issue” “you also need to ensure what you are asking the MP is clear and you must hold your elected members accountable” “Kashmir issue must be resolved in line with the wishes of the people of Kashmir”
Richard Harrington MP who is the secretary of the all parties Parliamentary group on Kashmir said. “We will be inviting the representatives of the Indian and the Pakistani Governments and demanding to know what they are doing to resolve this issue” “We will work tirelessly across the parties to find a solution to this dispute” “It has gone on for too long” “Any resolution to this dispute has to be in line with the United Nations resolutions and must be acceptable to all parties”
Lord Nazir Ahmed Chairman of the Kashmir Group said. “India claims to be the largest democracy but in actual fact it is hypocrisy”
“India must allow the people of Kashmir their right of self determination and must stop the killings and other atrocities immediately”
“We the British Kashmiris must also be united and ensure that we continue to pressure the uK government and the United Nations, they must not forget the peoples of Kashmir”
Lord Qurban Hussain who was attending his first official engagement as the latest House of Lords representative said. “I am a British Kashmiri and know the Kashmir issue; I will be working with my colleagues from all the parties in the Parliament to find a resolution to this issue soon”
“Kashmiris are campaigning for a just cause, Indian is trying to silence them by the force of the gun, and this cannot be allowed to go on”
Paul Blomfield.MP said “All freedom struggles are hard and the people of Kashmir have seen the most horrific atrocities and brutalities from the Indian forces”
“The world media must report this and Indian army must stop these Human Rights abuses”
“Pressure must be built by the movement to ensure that the parliamentarians never forget this issue”
“I am proud of the way you are conducted your campaign now that you have more young people and women as your representatives you will succeed, Kashmiris will soon get their right to self determination.
Clive Betts. MP said. “I support the Kashmiri people they must be given their right of self determination” “We are friends of India and Pakistan but the solution to Kashmir has to be found and that solution has to be agreed by the Kashmiri people” “It is in the interest of both countries to find a solution soon”
David Ward MP said “British Kashmiris are a large Ethnic group in this country and can play a very effective role to assist the suffering people of Kashmir” “The community must unite and build a movement that is supported by the host community which forces the government to take action”
“I will be writing to the Prime Minister and the foreign secretary and demanding to know what actions they have taken to help resolve this issue”
David Nutall MP said. “These meetings are very useful as they allow us to understand the real issues of the community” “The resolution to this dispute must involve the Kashmiri leadership and must be acceptable to the peoples of Kashmir”

Dr Z. U Khan.advisor the president of AJK Government said. “The Kashmir issue has been going on for far too long, it is not a religious issue but an issue of 16 million people and their Human rights”

Raja Mohammed Yousaf Bandoorvi. Political advisor to the Prime Minister of AJK Government said. “Kashmir needs your attention, the world must not allow the atrocities to continue, we will continue with the struggle until we achieve our goal of the Right of self determination”
Shafila Akhtar said “Women are the real sufferers of this dispute we must pray an ddo what we can to sort out this dispute no women should suffer any more”
Sabia Shazad said “I will organise the people of London to ensure we continue to pressure our Government to help resolve this issue”
Mohammed Azam. Said The Movement wants to set up Kashmir Working groups in every Council so that this issue can be regularly, omitored and reported on”
Professor Shahid Iqbal. Said “The sacrifices of the Kashmiri people will not go in vain, their blood will bring results, India will not be able to crush the Kashmiris with the gun”
Anwar Haq. Said “We will mobilise the community and organise to ensure the issue of Kashmir is widely raised in this country on a regular basis until the issue is resolved”
Fahmida Khatoon.said “women will play a major part in this movement from now on”
Mulana Mohammed Yaqub Chishti. Said “I have been campaigning for this issue for many years and want to see a resolution in my life time”
Nazir Qureshi said “Kashmir was a paradise on earth, India has turned it into burning hell on earth, we must bring a stop to this”
Yousaf Naseem said “The all party Hurriyat will continue to work together to get a result to this dispute” “The Kashmiri leadership is united and agree that we want India to leave Kashmir”
The Conference was well attended and agreed to meet again within 3 months to see waht progress was made.
Raja Najabat Hussain said “We will continue to work tirelessly with the parliamentarians to put pressure on the UK Government and the European Union to move this issue higher on the agenda, we want to see the UNSC resolutions to be implemented and the people of Kashmir given their Right of self determination”
