London: At least 350 British troops have been killed in almost a decade-long Afghan war after a UK soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the war-tone country.
The British defense ministry said the soldier was killed in an explosion in the southern province of Helmand. He is the second soldier from the British Army killed this year.
Around 10,000 UK soldiers are in Afghanistan, making it the second-largest contributor to the US-led NATO forces there.
According to official figures, since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, more than 2,308 NATO forces have been killed.
The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the UK, US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
Several NATO member states are demanding an immediate draw-down of troops under public pressure.
The 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the country.
The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the country.
