Karachi: Sit-in protest by the sacked employees of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has continued for the second consecutive day on Friday.
On Thursday, the electric company announced to sack its 4,000 employees from “non-core department” with immediate effect.
Soon after the announcement, hundreds of affected employees cordoned the MD office, destroyed approximately 150 vehicles, hurled stones and smashed window-panes of the building.
They chanted slogans against the KESC’s administration and demanding their immediate restoration.
Various political parties, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamaat-e-Islami expressed solidarity with the sacked employees and demanded their restoration. JI has submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate over the issue.
The KESC administration said that the company is ready to discuss any financial package but restoration of sacked employees was impossible.
However, the representatives of the sacked employees refused to accept the proposal and announced to continue their sit-in protest till their restoration.
