KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has decided to expel over 4,000 employees under voluntary separation scheme (VSS).
KESC spokeswoman, Ayesha Aarabi, while talking to a private TV channel said that the administration has decided to shut non-management and non-technical departments in the company. These department included security guards, drivers, clerical staff, bill distributors, laboratory attendants, sweepers, computer operators, telephone operators and sentry workers.
She said out of the sacked employees, over 3,500 employees have completed full length of 25-year term of their employment.
According to the sources letters have been dispatched to the employees fired by the KESC administration
The company offered its over 4,000 employees VSS, whose date of validation expired on January 15. Around 375 employees accepted the offer while rest of the sacked employees will be paid all their statutory dues along with one month’s salary.
It is pertinent to mention here that KESC labour union CBA had rejected the offer by asking their activists not to take the opportunity because it is total injustice with employees.
The affected KESC employees have announced to stage demonstration against the decision.
