ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardar has appointed Sardar Lateef Khosa as new Governor of Punjab after the assassination of ex-Governor Salman Taseer, said presidential spokesman.
Farhatullah Khan Babar on Tuesday evening said that the President has appointed Khosa as Governor of Punjab and notification has been issued in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that UK based bilingual news website The News Tribe had issued news two days earlier that Sardar Lateef Khosa will be the new Governor of Punjab.
After the assassination of Taseer, there were different nominees under consideration for Governor of Punjab including Sardar Lateef Khosa, Babar Awan, Aasima Jahangir and Qamur Zaman Kaira but President Asif Ali Zardari nominated Khosa as a new governor of Punjab.
Sardar Lateef Khosa was also remained ex-Attorney General of Pakistan and Advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan. He is also a legal lawyer of Pakistan Peoples’ Party.
He is the second governor of Punjab from Dera Ghazi Khan, a district of lower Punjab.
Spokesman, Pakistan MUslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ahsan Iqbal said if new governor will work within the limits of constitution then it would be better for both federal and provincial governments. He said PML-N was not taken in interest for nominating new governor.
