Lahore: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s meeting with PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain proved as ‘partly successful’ after the latter assured to extend support to the PM in case of any possible no confidence move in parliament.
However, the Chaudhry’s linked their support to good governance in the country.
Talking to the media after the meeting, the prime minister said the PML-Q chief had assured their support in parliament.
“They have extended their cooperation to me in the past and will continue the same,’ he told reporters at the Zahoor Palace.
“I have never enjoyed majority in parliament. It was our allies who gave me unconditional support to become PM,’ he said.
Gilani said that the PML-Q had assured him that they would not derail democracy in the country.
“Every political party has the right to come up with the no-confidence motion” he said.
He added that the president could ask him to take vote of confidence from parliament.
Talking about MQM’s withdrawal from the coalition government, he said they have some reservations about Sindh home minister while JUI-F quitted after its minister was sacked from the federal cabinet.
He termed his meeting with Shahbaz Sharif a routine matter, saying he had working relationship with the CM. He said, during the meeting, he discussed with the chief minister about his recent visit to Turkey.
On the occasion, Shujaat said he does not believe in politics of blackmailing, adding that the government should address all the issues facing the country.
Criticising the PML-N leadership, Pervez Elahi said that their friendly opposition have exposed.
He said that the PMlL-Q had given vote of confidence to the Prime Minister Gilani so that he could serve the masses without any hurdle. “We had been reminding the government of its responsibilities but to no avail,” he said.
