Dancing, fireworks, singing, outings and much more meant for welcoming the New Year is the persistent phenomena at the globe for a long time. People deemed an exciting time,
filled with high anticipation and expectations for the months to come.
Whether you slide into a New Year easily or go kicking and screaming, you’ll get some good advice for your life and your home.
The new year, 1st Jan. 2011, when every soul in universe, is wishing a happy and prosperous New Year to each other, but the people of Waziristan (Federal Tribal Area of Pakistan), unfortunately, have been gifted, by a serious of drone attack, giving them the remain of at least 19 innocents by the most beloved’s of the county.
US drones fired multiple missiles on two houses, what they termed, suspected hideouts and a vehicle, killing at least nineteen people and many others injured.
It is very bizarre or contemptible that our government has no way to ascertain whether the attacked people by drone were terrorist s or not. In 2010, the sources put the death toll in the drone attacks at over 1000. However, this figure could not be confirmed. Most of the drone strikes were carried out in North Waziristan where the US is pressing Pakistan to launch military operation against the militants.
The number of drone attacks in Pakistan in 2010 was more than double of those carried out during 2009. The attacks were even more than all the missile strikes carried out by the US drones in Pakistan during the last six years.
A security official on the condition of anonymity told The News Tribe that the US drones kept flying in the FATA territories for hours after shelling at neighborhoods, creating fear and sense of insecurity among the innocent Pushtoons.
Khan Hussain Khan¸ Former Minister and Chief Advisor of Kalat said the asked the Drone attackers; what proof do they have that these innocent people are being killed and many injured were terrorists?
The government of Pakistan must investigate and declare their names and affiliation.
He said he had thought the nightmare of Bush had ended, Obama seemed to have same vision; the man who seemed to understand complicities.
Khan further said that Barak Obama must realize the aerial attacks, through Drone, on Pakistan’s tribal areas were facing serious setbacks.
“Such interference would cause more violence and terrorist activities which would rise to new heights and might lead the world to destruction”, Khan warned.
“I had thought Obama would be ray of hope in the dark tunnel but all in vain”, he regretted.
Many other intellectuals and critics believed to stop the drone attacks on tribal areas of Pakistan. If the local people took the matters in their hands, the things might reach to the point of no return, while a stable and strong Pakistan is the need of the time.
It is very crucial that United States should stop attacking Pakistani territories with drone jets; furthermore, bowing down to the pressure to allow similar attacks in and around Quetta would be horrendous for government of Pakistan. If the US has credible evidence that militants operating from Pakistan, the information must be shared with Pakistan and it is the prerogative of Pakistan to undertake any action.
Permitting the US to elaborate drone attacks other regions within Pakistani territory and specifically to Quetta is nothing but putting Pakistan’s sovereignty on stake.– M.B Tahir
