ISLAMABAD: Situation of ongoing senate session deteriorated on Wednesday when the Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar, provided different statistics of terrorism victims in Pakistan on the same question by two senators.
Pakistan’s IM Chaudhry Nisar provided inaccurate statistics with a significant variation while answering to Senators Talha Mehmood and Zahid Khan regarding the number of Pakistanis killed and injured in different incidents.
According to reports, both senators asked the interior minister for provision of statistics about killed and injured citizens during terrorism incidents since June 2013.
Variation found in the written answers during the senate session in Islamabad as Nisar told Senator Zahid Khan that 358 people were killed and 927 were injured in terrorists’ attacks.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister told the Talha Mehmood that 779 Pakistanis was killed and 2080 injured in deadly attacks.
Chaudhry Nisar also alleged that the provincial government are responsible for not controlling the law and order situation.
Opposition in Senate protested, walked out from the session over provision of inaccurate figures by the interior minister and alleged that the top leader unaware about the actual statistics about victims of terrorism.
Senator Zahid Khan, who is affiliated with the political party Awami National Party (ANP), challenged the provided figures on the occasion.
Zahid Khan claimed that at least 90 persons were killed in only one incident in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The criticism added fuel to the fire in the senate’s session, when opposition questioned the interior minister about the performance of intelligence agencies working under his orders as well as the record keeping work by them.
Nisar answered that the intelligence agencies are not responsible for keeping the records.
On the event, Pakistan People Party (PPP)’s prominent leader and Senator Aetzaz Ahsan said that statistics are not accurate which were provided by Chaudhry Nisar.
Senator Pervaiz Rasheed backed the interior minister’s statement, he said that the opposition leaders should not adopt such behaviour in the senate.
Chairman Senate, Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, has terminated the session for fifteen minutes and ordered the members for calming down the situation.
The orders seemed vain when opposition senators walked out in protesting the Nisar’s attitude and demanded pardon from the interior minister on his negative behaviour.
