ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has resigned from his just after a day announcing new president of the country.
Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has excused for continuation of work on his post till upcoming local bodies election in Pakistan.
Election Commission officials have confirmed the receiving of Fakhruddin’s formally resignation.
Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has sent his resignation to President of Pakistan and a copy to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Fakhruddin provided his opinion in the resignation letter that new parliament should select a new chief election commissioner.
Earlier, rumours were circulating saying that power corridors of the capital city that energetic election commissioner has resigned from the post; however, there is no confirmation from any official source.
Various political forces including Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Jamaat e Islami and others have raised serious questions over his failure in conducting transparent and fair elections.
He took the oath as CEC on 23 July 2012, after being appointed by the President of Pakistan.
He is a retired Associate Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and Senior Advocate Supreme Court and is known as a peace activist.
