Karachi: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf and his team have finally succeeded in persuading a test playing nation to tour Pakistan after a long time.
Zaka Ashraf along with COO Subhan Ahmad met with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Mustafa Kamal and other members in Dhaka, in which both the party reached a few agreements.
During the meeting the PCB chairman reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for nomination of Mustafa Kamal for ICC’s vice Presidency.
On the occasion, the BCB chief, Mustafa Kamal agreed that Bangladesh cricket team would visit Pakistan in April 2012 as per the ICC’s Future Tours Programme. Mustafa Kamal said that a security committee would visit Pakistan in January 2012 to review the security measures. He hoped that slowly and gradually international cricket would come back to Pakistan, adding that he had been discussing with some of the Cricket Boards on how to bring back international cricket in Pakistan.
Talking to this correspondent from Dhaka the PCB Chairman expressed pleasure over the development, and described it as a turning point. “We are thankful to the BCB and hope that the tour would go on well. Other teams will also follow the footsteps of Bangladesh and visit Pakistan soon”, said Zaka Ashraf.
On a question, the PCB chairman negated the impression of give-and-take between the two boards. “The decision to support Bangladesh for the ICC vice-presidency was taken by former chairman Ijaz Butt and we have formally endoursed it during today’s meeting. It can’t be called a give-and-take, few years back in the case of Ehsan Mani, the Bangladesh Cricket Board supported the PCB”, concludes Zaka Ashraf
The two Boards also agreed to collaborate and work jointly on not only building the partnership but also developing cricket. Both long term and short term strategies were discussed and the two Boards agreed to extend cooperation in a number of fields which broadly are:
1. Assistance in training to Bangladesh for their Academy players to be started. This will benefit players from Bangladesh in improving their skills.
2. Reciprocal tours between “A”, Academy and “U-19” teams.
3. Reciprocal tours between women’s team of both countries.
4. Partnership for organizing international cricket events in collaboration with other Cricket Boards.
