Rawalpindi: An Accountability court on Saturday exonerated all the accused, including Salman Farooqi, a clsoe aide of President Asif Ali Zardari, in SGS reference case, involving former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and President Zardari.
There were allegations that A R Siddiqi, former chairman of CBR now FBR, negotiated a pre-shipment contract between the government of Pakistan and SGS, a Swiss company, allegedly to obtain pecuniary advantages for the then prime minister Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari on September 20, 1994.
The Accountability Court II judge Altaf Hussain Mahar gave the verdict after recording statements of all the witnesses in the case. According to the verdict Benazir and Zardari did not pressurized to get the agreement approved.
Presidentail Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the verdict proved that Benazir Bhutto was innocent.
