Karachi: A Pakistani journalist was gunned down while going home from work in the limits of Super Market police station, Liaquatabad Town, Karachi, the country’s commercial hub on Thursday night.
Crime Reporter Association General Secretary Raza Jaffery confirmed the incident and said that Wali Khan Babar, a reporter of Pakistan’s most popular news channel, was found seriously injured in a vehicle, bearing registration no AEE-613, near APWA school in Liaquatabad Town.
According to initial report, he was intercepted by unidentified attackers in front of Super Market police and opened fire on him from a point blank-range, leaving him seriously injured. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his bullet wounds.
Hospital sources said that Wali Khan Babar received three bullets in his head.
Hailing from Zhob, Balochistan, Babar joined Geo English two years ago after completing masters in international relations from the University of Karachi. But, later, when the project was scrapped, his services were transferred to Geo News (Urdu).

Mazhar Abbas, a senior Pakistani journalist, condemned the incident and termed it a cowardly act.
General Secretary, Karachi Union of Journalists, Khursheed Abbasi demanded Sindh Government to take stern action against person involved in the incident. He also demanded the governmetn to give them exemplary punishment.
Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik also condemned the target killing of a journalist. He ordered Inspector General Police Sindh to investigate the case and accomplish a comprehensive report of the incident.
