ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finally taken strict step against members of the Pakistan’s upper and lower houses and suspended the membership of 26 parliamentarians on Tuesday.
Prominent names amongst the leaders who faced suspension orders released by the ECP include Faisal Raza Abidi and Shahjahan Baloch (Pakistan People’s Party – PPP), Mustafa Kamal (Muttahida Qaumi Movement – MQM), Waheed Asghar Dogar and Masood Shafqat (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – PTI).
According to ECP, 3 members of the National Assembly,  4 from Punjab Assembly, 9 of the Sindh Assembly, 1 from Balochistan, 7 from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) while 2 members of senate faced formal notification of suspension over non-submission of their asset details.
ECP also announced that the formal letters has been sent to the Chairman Senate and Speaker of the National Assembly in order to stop the activities of the suspended parliamentarians.
The parliamentarians will be restricted to received their salaries and honorarium during the suspension periods.
Pakistani lawmakers had awarded by last chance from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on yesterday in order to prevent themselves from expected suspension orders over non-submission of their asset details.
The notification of suspension had to be released on October 15 but ECP excused for issuance due to Eid-ul-Adha holidays, however, the top electoral department of Pakistan failed to release the notification till yesterday.
Despite announcing deadlines on various occasions, ECP provided another day to parliamentarians for submission of their complete particulars related to their assets as the notification for membership suspension have not been released till yet.
Members in Pakistan’s upper and lower houses including Senate, National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies were ordered to submit their asset details’ under the Representation of People Act while the deadline given was ending on September 30.
