Islamabad: President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) have jointly announced to observe black day on Thursday against the 12 May 2007 bloodshed in Karachi.
President SCBA Asma Jahangir and Chairman PBC Abdul Latif Afradi said this while talking to media here on Wednesday.
Jahangir said that the responsibility could not be held on the elements that were behind the Karachi incident even after lapse of four years, which was self-speaking failure.
She reiterated her resolve that those who were involved in burning the lawyers alive would not be pardoned whether they were policemen, or political workers or even judges.
“Entire nation knows it well that except MQM no other party could dare to perpetrate such activity so I appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take sue motto action on the incident of 12 May 2007 in which almost 49 people including several lawyers were dead and about 200 were injured. MQM did all this on the directives of former dictator Pervez Musharraf”, she added.
She said the community which fights legal battle in the courts for dispensation of justice to the people is itself deprived of the Justice. Now they are demanding apex judiciary for the justice.
She said that the main difference between democracy and dictatorship and if during democratic government people can not get justice, then all the sacrifices given for the sake of democracy would go waste.
Latif Afridi backed the decision of Jahangir for observing black day on 12 May to commutate the restoration of Chief Justice. He said that legal fraternity through out the country would abide by the pronouncement to hold strikes on black day.
