NEW YORK: The Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has arrived in New York today for participation in the United Nations’ (UN) General Assembly session to highlight the country foreign policy guidelines on coming Friday.
PM Nawaz Sharif will address in the annual session of UN General Assembly on Friday as he arrived in the New York along with his Pakistani delegation.
Pakistan’s efforts for the promotion of peace establishment in the region will be the part of his address as well as he will provide his view point on several regional and global issues before the international community.
The UN General Assembly’s annual session is beginning from September 24 (today) in which members of international community are gathered in search of resolution of global issues and to expose several other problems interlinked with the World’s developing and developed countries.
According to reports, The Prime Minister’s delegation includes the Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, the Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Safdar, Pakistan permanent representative at the UN Masood Khan and other senior officials.
Earlier, the Special Advisor to the Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security, Sartaj Aziz said that the issue of drone strikes over Pakistani soil will be raised in forums of United Nations.
While giving an interview in New York, Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan has already clarified its stance on drone being counterproductive. These lead to several civilian causalities and cause to enhance rage among people against US.
Sartaj Aziz said that the main issue is that the drone attacks violate international law besides sovereignty of Pakistan. He added that the international community have now started to support the stance of Pakistan raising voice against drone attacks. He further said that the US must also realise that international pressure is mounting on it regarding the same.
Aziz added that Pakistan was committed to protect minorities and will assure the international community at the United Nations in this regard.
Sources said that a meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Nawaz Sharif will take place on September 6.
His much-awaited maiden meeting with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh is expected on September 29 at the breakfast.
The Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with the world leaders on the sidelines of the session.
Nawaz Sharif will also attend various events including high level meetings on millennium development goals‚ sustainable development and nuclear disarmament.
