ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has upheld the decision of election authorities to bar Pakistan People’s Party candidate Murad Ali Shah from contesting elections.
The apex court Thursday restrained candidacy of Murad Ali Shah as he possessed dual nationality, an ineligibility to contest polls in Pakistan.
The court observed that the candidate could not provide certificate of giving up Canadian nationality.
The returning officer and election tribunal had earlier decided that the candidate could not participate in general polls for not possessing Pakistan’s nationality alone.
