Islamabad: The Secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday said that the commission was ready to conduct free and fair polls in the country.
Speaking to media in Islamabad, Ishtiaq Ahmed said that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor and Chairman Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) had assured their support in scrutinizing the tax and asset details.
He further said that he had raised the issue of time period for scrutinizing the nomination papers of the election candidates and had suggested the parliamentary committee to increase the period from 7 days to one month.
He further sad that it came to his knowledge that the time period was givenin the constitution and it could only be changed through a constitutional amendment.
He added that now it was the responsibility of the lawmakers to perform legislation.
