Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan said on Tuesday in its detailed verdict pertaining to the case of Ali Musa Gilani, son of disqualified Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and former federal health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, that their detention was unjustified.
The 17-page verdict is written by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.
It said that the apex court was not pleased by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) when they arrested Ali Musa Gilani from the premises of the Supreme Court.
Makhdoom Shahabuddin’s arrest warrants were issued after he submitted his nomination papers for the premiership. The court order said that the prosecutor did not provide any evidence that both accused did not cooperate in the investigation.
It was unjustified to keep the accused in detention if they are cooperating, it said, adding that Shahabuddin and Ali Musa appeared before the investigation officers at least four times.
It also said that the authorities never detained former Director General Health Dr Rasheed Jumma, who seems to be a central suspect of the case.
