Islamabad: The Pakistan Ex-servicemen Association (PESA) on Tuesday expressed grave concern over rapid adoption of the Contempt of Court Bill by the National Assembly which it viewed as an attack on the judiciary to protect a few corrupt benefited from NRO.
Government must not start media trial of the judiciary; disobeying judiciary in not legal in any country while using Parliament to shield corrupt is undemocratic attitude, ex-servicemen said.
Amendments regarding dual nationality holders will place national security at great risk while reopening of Nato supply route indicate total mismanagement by government, they added.
These observations came in a meeting of the Executive Council of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (PESA) presided by Vice Admiral Ahmad Tasnim. Air Marshal Masood Akhtar, former ambassador Salim Nawaz Gandapur, Brig Riaz Ahmed, Brig Masud ul Hassan, Justice Jawaid Nawaz Gandapur, Major Farouk Hameed, Naik Raja Fazil and others were also present on the occasion.
The meeting observed that amendments to the law on contempt of court are a conspiracy to destroy independence of judiciary. It is against the fundamental principle of equality before law.
Oath of dual nationality holders for loyalty to Pakistan will have no value as one person cannot be loyal to two countries, it said.
PESA members called upon the legal fraternity, civil society and general public to resist aggression against judiciary; oppose the black law and protect the scared Constitution unanimously passed in 1973.
Sudden reopening of critical NATO supply route is failure of the government on many fronts while ignoring to brief the House or taking masses into confidence is creating anxiety in society, it was noted.
Pakistan lost 24 soldiers in US attack, but stands as an accused and untrustworthy ally. US Secretary of State has put Pakistan on probation by saying that it will be on test for its behaviour in the future.
