Federal Government Grants ISI Permission to Trace Phone Calls

Islamabad: The federal government has granted the ISI permission to trace phone calls.

The federal cabinet has approved the authority for a designated officer of the intelligence agency to listen to or trace citizens’ calls. The ISI will also have the authority to intercept or trace messages in addition to phone calls. This approval was given through circulation.

The permission for the ISI to trace phone calls has been granted under Section 54 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Act 1996.

According to the announcement, the summary approval was given in the context of national security and the prevention of any crime. The officer designated by the agency will be of no lower rank than Grade 18.
