Eid-al-Adha: Punjab Govt. Prepares Summary for Release and Reduction of Prison Sentences

Lahore: On the instructions of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a summary for the reduction and release of prisoners’ sentences has been prepared for the occasion of Eid-al-Adha.

The summary concerning the reduction and release of prisoners’ sentences will be presented to the provincial cabinet for approval before Eid.

If approved, according to the proposed plan, male prisoners aged over 70 years and female prisoners over 60 years, who have served two-thirds of their sentences and demonstrated good conduct during incarceration, will be eligible for early release. Additionally, female prisoners with children under five years old, having completed two-thirds of their sentences under similar conditions, will also benefit from the initiative.

Punjab’s Home Secretary, Noorul Amin Mengal, underscored that the criteria for sentence reduction and early release would hinge on inmates maintaining exemplary behavior throughout their imprisonment and fulfilling the requisite time served.

Furthermore, Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal visited Central Jail Lahore, inspecting the kitchen, hospital, prisoners’ barracks, industrial, and vocational centers.
