Gaza City: The 20-day Israeli military operation in Jabalia has left much of the city in ruins, with over 1,000 homes destroyed, according to local reports.
The conclusion of the operation on Thursday has prompted calls from dozens of UN experts for “decisive international action,” including sanctions and an arms embargo against Israel, over its widely condemned assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
In the latest series of attacks, the Israeli military killed at least 11 people in two strikes on family homes in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. In another incident, three family members were killed in an Israeli strike while traveling by car in central Gaza’s Nuseirat. The victims were reported to have been operating a kitchen providing free meals for Gaza’s displaced population.
Further violence was reported in the occupied West Bank, where Israeli forces shot a Palestinian man in the foot during a raid on the city of Nablus.
Amid the ongoing conflict, the United Nations has reported that approximately 18,500 pregnant Palestinian women are fleeing Rafah, describing the situation as an “unrelenting nightmare.”
Despite the severe impact, including the displacement of one million people and numerous fatalities, the US State Department has stated that Israel’s attack on Rafah does not constitute a “major operation.”
The conflict’s toll extends beyond Gaza, with an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killing a medic in the city of Naquora.
Grim discoveries continue to emerge, with seven mass graves found in Gaza. Among these, three mass graves were uncovered at the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, containing 30 headless bodies. Additional mass graves were found at the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza and the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza.
The human cost of the conflict has been staggering. Since October 7, at least 36,224 Palestinians have been killed and 81,777 wounded in Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
