Pakistanis Spent $540 Million on Tea in the Last 10 Months

Islamabad: Despite facing economic challenges, Pakistan has witnessed a significant surge in spending on tea imports, with citizens collectively spending $540 million on tea leaves over the last 10 months.

According to a report from the Bureau of Statistics, tea imports have soared by 17 percent compared to the previous fiscal year, reaching a total of $547.4 million in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. In contrast, the import of tea in the same period of the previous financial year amounted to $467.6 million.

The report highlights that Pakistan imported 219,066 tons of tea during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, marking a 15 percent increase from the previous year’s imports. In comparison, 190,830 tons of tea were imported during the same period in the last financial year.

Despite this overall increase in tea imports, the data shows a slight decline in tea imports from March 24 to April 24, with a 10 percent decrease observed. During April 24, tea imports amounted to $52 million, down from $58.5 million recorded on March 24.

The surge in tea imports reflects the enduring popularity of the beverage among Pakistanis, despite economic pressures. Tea remains a staple in Pakistani households and is deeply ingrained in the country’s cultural and social fabric.

The continued demand for tea underscores its importance in the daily lives of Pakistanis, even amid economic uncertainties. As the nation navigates through challenges, tea continues to serve as a comforting and essential beverage for millions across the country.
