Beijing: The world’s first diamond has been created using a local flower in China. This unique 3-carat gem, valued at 300,000 yuan, was cultivated using innovative biogenic carbon extraction technology from red peonies located in the Luoyang National Peony Garden.
According to international news agencies, Chinese scientists have created the first diamond of its kind using carbon atoms found in a local flower. The diamond, produced from the Red Peonies flower indigenous to China, weighs 3 carats and was unveiled in the city of Luoyang, Henan province.
The groundbreaking process involves extracting carbon from a nearly half-century-old peony and subjecting it to high temperatures and pressures to simulate the natural diamond-forming process. According to Wang Jing, the head of Luoyang Time Promise Co., which developed the diamond, the technology involves breaking the chemical bonds of the carbon found in the peony and then recombining them to form a diamond structure.
The diamond-manufacturing company, Luoyang Time Promise, created this unique diamond and donated it to the Luoyang National Peony Garden. The garden’s administrators had agreed to provide this specific flower from their collection to the company for the creation of the diamond.
It is reported that the flowers used included a Peony that was nearly half a century old. According to Chinese media, the diamond made from this flower is valued at 300,000 yuan in Chinese currency.
