CM Sindh Murad Announces Reduction in Prison Sentences Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

Karachi: In a gesture of compassion and goodwill, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a special 120-day remission in the jail term of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, offering a glimmer of hope to many incarcerated individuals.

According to media reports, as per the spokesperson of the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Chief Minister has approved a pardon of 120 days in prison sentences. The decision, made upon the recommendation of the inspector general of prisons, aims to provide relief to deserving prisoners, allowing them to reunite with their families during the festive season or sooner than their actual release date.

However, certain categories of offenders remain excluded from this remission, including those convicted of serious crimes such as murder, espionage, rape, terrorism, embezzlement, and causing harm to the national treasury are also not eligible for a pardon, among others.

According to the CM’s spokesperson, individuals serving sentences under specific laws, including the Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Act 2002 and the Foreigners Act 1946, are also ineligible for this special remission.

It should be noted that the President of the country and the Chief Minister of Punjab had also announced pardons for several prisoners for the occasion of Eid.
